Ready for a fishing trip like no other? Grab your bow and join Captain Jason Toombs for a night of bowfishing action in the heart of Louisiana. This isn't your average cast-and-reel outing - it's an adrenaline-pumping adventure where quick reflexes and sharp eyes are your best friends. Whether you're a seasoned bowfisher or a curious first-timer, this 4-hour private charter is set to be the highlight of your Louisiana visit.
Picture this: You're gliding through Louisiana's murky waters under the cover of darkness. The boat's LED lights pierce the night, revealing the shadowy forms of fish just below the surface. Your heart races as you draw back your bow, take aim, and let an arrow fly. That's the thrill waiting for you and up to two buddies on this private guided night bowfishing trip. Captain Jason's custom-rigged boat is your mobile hunting platform, decked out with state-of-the-art lighting to give you the best shot at landing some impressive catches. And don't sweat it if you're new to this - Jason's got you covered with all the gear and know-how you'll need to get in on the action.
So how does this bowfishing thing work? It's pretty straightforward, but don't mistake simple for easy. You'll be armed with a specially designed bow fitted with an AMS bottle reel - think of it as a bow and fishing rod combo. When you spot a fish, you'll draw, aim, and release. The arrow, attached to a line on your reel, zips through the water. If you hit your mark, just reel it in. Miss? No worries, the bottle reel makes retrieving your arrow a breeze. Captain Jason and his crew will be right there to offer tips, help you spot fish, and even lend a hand getting those arrows unstuck when you nail the muddy bottom instead of a fish (hey, it happens to the best of us).
"Had a great time with Jason and his some last weekend! Had lots of opportunities and missed more than I want to admit. Jason was a great guide and kept us on fish and his sone was ready and waiting to get them off the arrow(or the arrow out of the mud. Lol)" - Casey
"One the best experiences I have ever been on. I highly recommend taking this tour. Jason is very experienced and knowledgeable about the fish, gators, boats, and more. I know how to use a bow to fish now and what to look for.I look forward to doing this again." - Britt
"Excellent experience! Jason is very knowledgeable about the area, worked hard, and put me on the fish. I would highly recommend to anyone even if you've never been bow fishing before." - Steve
Sheepshead: Don't let their goofy grins fool you - these striped bandits are tough customers. Sheepshead love structure, so we'll be targeting them around pilings and submerged logs. They're known for their powerful bite and tasty fillets, making them a favorite among bowfishers. Spring and early summer are prime time for sheepshead action.
Redfish: Also known as red drum, these copper-colored bruisers are a Louisiana staple. We'll be on the lookout for their telltale spot near the tail as they cruise the shallows. Redfish put up a great fight and are absolute dynamite on the dinner table. Fall is the peak season, but we catch them year-round.
Channel Catfish: These whiskered bottom-dwellers might not win any beauty contests, but they're a blast to shoot. We'll find them lurking near drop-offs and in deeper holes. Channel cats can grow to impressive sizes, giving you a chance at some real trophy shots. They're most active during the warmer months.
Alligator Gar: Now we're talking prehistoric. These armor-plated monsters can top 7 feet long and put your gear and skills to the test. Gar often surface to gulp air, giving us perfect shot opportunities. They're active year-round but really get fired up in the summer. Landing a big gar is a true Louisiana bowfishing achievement.
Common Carp: These golden giants are bowfishing royalty. Carp love shallow, weedy areas and often feed with their backs out of the water - prime targets for a well-placed arrow. They grow big, fight hard, and are available all year. Don't let anyone tell you carp aren't worthy quarry; they're some of the most challenging and rewarding fish to bowfish for.
You might be wondering why we're hitting the water after dark. Simple - it's when the action heats up. Many of our target species are more active at night, and the cover of darkness actually works in our favor. Those LED lights on the boat don't just help us see; they temporarily stun the fish, making them easier to spot and giving you a better shot. Plus, there's something magical about being out on the water under the stars, the gentle hum of the motor, and the anticipation of what might appear in the light beam next.
Leave your typical fishing gear at home for this one. Captain Jason provides everything you need for a successful night of bowfishing. Each bow is equipped with an AMS bottle reel, which is perfect for quick shots and easy arrow retrieval. The specialized arrows are designed to pierce the water with minimal deflection, improving your accuracy. And don't worry about bringing a headlamp - the boat's LED setup will light up the water like it's daytime. Just remember to grab your Louisiana fishing license before the trip. If you need help getting one, just give Jason a shout.
This isn't just about sticking fish (though there's plenty of that). It's about experiencing Louisiana's waterways in a whole new light - literally. You'll see all sorts of nocturnal critters going about their business. Gators' eyes glowing in the dark, owls swooping for a midnight snack, and who knows what else might make an appearance. Captain Jason's knowledge goes way beyond just where the fish are biting. He's a walking encyclopedia of local flora, fauna, and folklore. So between shots, soak up some Louisiana culture and maybe learn a thing or two about the ecosystem you're exploring.
At the end of your 4-hour adventure, you'll have more than just bragging rights (although those are pretty sweet too). Captain Jason and his crew will clean and bag your catch, so you can take home the fruits of your labor. Whether you're planning a fish fry or looking to mount your trophy, they'll make sure you're all set. And let's be honest, there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of putting dinner on the table with a bow and arrow.

Whether you're a seasoned pro or a total newbie, Captain Jason will make sure you have a blast and get plenty of shots at some impressive fish. Alligator gar are prehistoric-looking monsters, often stretching 4-6 feet and hitting 100+ pounds. You'll find 'em in our bayous, backwaters, and slow-moving rivers. Late summer, when it's hot and dry, is the best time to target these beasts. Bowfishing's popular, but remember, it's a one-way trip for the fish. Rod-and-reel anglers love the challenge – these guys put up a serious fight. For bait, try carp or mullet on a big treble hook under a bright bobber. Local tip: look for deep river bends next to shallow pools. And heads up – it's catch-and-release only for these ancient fish. They're tough to land, but man, what a rush when you do!
Channel cats are a staple in our waters, running 10-20 pounds on average. These whiskered bottom-feeders thrive in our warm, murky waters, especially in reservoirs and slow-moving rivers. Summer nights are prime time for catfishing. Anglers dig 'em for their hard-fighting spirit and tasty fillets. To hook one, use stinkbait or cut bait near deep holes or underwater structure. Here's a local secret: try using an extra-long rod, about 7-7.6 feet, for better control when you're battling a big one. Just watch out for those sharp pectoral fins when you're landing 'em – they can give you a nasty poke if you're not careful.
Common carp are hardy fighters, usually running 15-30 inches and 4-30 pounds. You'll find 'em in our lakes, slow rivers, and even murky ponds. They're bottom-feeders, so look for 'em in 8-12 foot depths during summer. Spring and fall are great times to catch 'em feeding aggressively in the shallows. Anglers love the challenge – these guys don't give up easy. For bait, corn or boilies work well. Here's a local trick: use a hair rig to present your bait – it makes hook-shy carp more likely to take it. And remember, stealth is key. These fish spook easily, so keep your movements slow and avoid shiny gear. It's a whole different kind of fishing, but man, it's addictive once you get into it.
Redfish, or red drum, are a favorite target in our shallow waters. They average 28-33 inches but can grow much bigger. Look for them in bays, oyster reefs, and around seagrass in 1-4 feet of water. Fall and winter are great seasons as they school up. Anglers love 'em for their strong fight and that distinctive tail spot. They'll hit a variety of lures, but topwater action can be explosive. For a local trick, try sight-fishing with gold spoons on sunny days – you can often spot their copper backs in the shallows. Just remember, they spook easy, so a stealthy approach is key. And don't forget, they make for some mighty fine eating too.
Sheepshead are a unique catch, with their distinctive black stripes and human-like teeth. These crafty fish typically run 1-8 pounds and hang around structures like docks, bridges, and reefs. They're masters at stealing bait, so you gotta be quick on the hook set. Late winter to early spring is prime time as they gather to spawn. Anglers love 'em for their delicious white meat and the challenge they present. To land one, use light tackle and natural baits like fiddler crabs or shrimp. My top tip: scrape some barnacles off a piling to chum 'em up, but check local regs first. Just watch out for those sharp dorsal spines when you're handling 'em!
